a1 | 26 | 2 | Cornfield | Patrick | 20/01/1911 | James Lane CMX | no evidence I do know that some ' unbaptized ' children were buried on the left hand side of the graveyard - approximately in the square on the chart a 1 to a 6 up to c 1 to c 6. This is very vague , but, again according to my Mother these burials sometimes took place late evening. Ray Howell |

Her husband William, died 10th Jan 1957. Their daughter Dorothy, died 11th April 1990. - At Rest | Headstone and Enclosure, Sarah Jane - oldest member of Select Vestry, very large funeral. Bottom of No. 62 Letter from Ray Howell Feb 2010 Dear Robert, The old numbers on the graves were disturbed in so many cases that they proved to be a problem more than a solution. As there are so many of these people related my father Benjamin (as the only male of the Howell's in Carrickmacross) would have picked the plot for his Mother (Mary Ellen-nee Woods) next to his grandparents/uncles etc. - The Woods family. He then would have chosen the plot for his Mother-in-Law Sarah Bell. This would have all been put in his name , therefore the two Howell names. On the chart this would be the line f 29 through to f 38. The Bells were my Mother's adoptive parents. Her actual Mother (Margaret Heron nee Bell) died shortly after she was born and she was adopted by her Mother's cousins. Her Mother and later in 1961 her Father (Cecil Heron) are buried in the Bell plot in St.Patrick's, Donaghmoyne. As you walk down the graveyard in Donaghmoyne it is the last, large, grave on the left. According to my Mother there are 14 of the Bell family buried there but no individual names on the gravestone. Back to God's Acre - the large plot with no headstone to the left of the Howell plot has all the Woods clan from Farney St (Bath St.). The Woods family would probably be one of the oldest families in the town with so many families related to them. In the early 1800's we had Billy (The Shah) Woods married with 6 children (C.of I.) His wife died and he re-married having another 5 children (R.C.). His descendants - through intermarriage would probably constitute 25% of the population of the town. On the chart you have f 29 to f 32 as Sarah / William and Dorothy Woods. They actually are e 29 to e 31 as they have a headstone there. The William Woods was my granduncle. Now to the Langs. In some way they were related to the Woods family. My Mother did tell me that a Mrs.Lang was originally Woods. I think they would occupy the mounds behind the Woods and Howell graves - no surround or stone. Regards, Ray |
